I have recently bought a swift sundance and had a Fiamma awning fitted to it. It was only several weeks later when we went away and wanted to use the safari room that we found a problem. One of the support arms that winds out with the awning is directly above the living area door and prevents us from having the awning low enough to fit the side panel properly. To allow us to open the door we have to raise the awning to such a height that the side panel is pulled about a foot away from the motorhome at the bottom. I have enquired with Fiamma about being able to move the bar and they said it is not possible, I have also looked to see if I can slide the awning across to clear the bar from the doorway but I think the window to the overcab bed area will stop me moving it far enough. I have found a company in Burton upon Trent who tell me they can alter the side panel but are snowed under with work and can't do it until September. if anybody know's of any companies who can help me it would be greatly appreciated

You could try sewing on a kind of 'extension' yourself, just temporarily until you can get the job done properly. The best stuff is shower curtain material - just backstitch (or use a machine - better) to attach it on around the bottom. I found a great shower curtain in a dark green fabric (don't get the plastic stuff!) in my local home & bargain shop for £2.99. You'd probably get two 'skirts' out of one shower curtain cut lengthways, so multiply about 6ft by the length of the sides you need to extend. Or double them up and use them doubled and attach without cutting.   You could use the shower curtain holes to peg it down and just put a few more at various spots with a hole punch and eyelets, also not much from a cheapie shop.

We had a similar problem, in that on our old van we had a 3 metre awning but the new van was longer and needed a 3.5 metre, otherwise the two side poles would come down one directly over the shower room window and the other directly over the door.  They put the longer awning on and now the pole comes down on the outside of the door and the outside of the toilet window.  It's all very well having an awning put on, but you do need to think about these things if you are going to be using the awning as a privacy room.

Hi Andrewbrown

There used to be a company on Canal Street in Nottingham who carried out this type of work. They extended one for me several years ago but the name escapes me. I know they sell ropes and various climbing gear but being quite close to you it may be worth a ride over

Good Luck

John
