I am confused over the power of microwaves for my newly acquired campervan. Argos do a 700watt model but a friend says they are too powerful for electric hoop-ups and should buy a more expensive 500watt.

Is this correct or will the cheaper 700watt be okay?

We have used our 750 watt one for five years and not blown the hookup yet. We are careful to turn everything else off (like the kettle toaster) when on 10 amp hookup. Ours was a budget tesco one for around the £25 mark.

Maplin sell a small microwave that runs off 12 volt and has 175 watts from a cigarette lighter socket or 700 watts if connected directly to the battery. It costs about £130 though but ideal if you wildcamp alot. I don't know how big it is or if it's actually any good!

We fitted the Morphy Richards 700 watt model from Argos. (click here for link)

Be aware than it can use up to 1150 watts.

We have had zero problems with the electrical hook ups, and we don't switch anything off before use.

I suppose the worse that can happen is the hook up trips, and would need resetting.

Ours will not work from the battery, but that is not a problem as we only book pitches with EHUs etc.

Thanks for your advice.

I shall buy the cheaper model from Argos at £24.95 and be careful when using.

We have a 800 watt and make sure we switch other heating appliances off when using it.

The work will wait while you show the child the rainbow, but the rainbow won't wait while you finish the work.
