I have a second eberspacher D4 that i have installed in my camper.  When it is on,the noise in the van is an acceptable level, however, on the outside of the van it sound like a jet engine warming up.  Is this usual or is it because i have an older model (timer switcheds off after an hour).  I want to use the van in colder weather but don't wish to disturb everyone on the campsite. Any thoughts?

Cheers,

Oz

No I think they all sound like an RAF jet taking off.

We had a gas heater in the previous van and much preferred it especially with the price of diesel.

Re disturbing people if you are on a campsite on hook up buy a small heater to use in the van rather than use your diesel.

We carry a small fan heater for instant heat in the winter but found it a little noise in the night and dries your skin out too so we carry (just in the winter) a very small oil filled radiator (less than £9 at B&Q) to keep on in the night.

We also find if we are on non hook up the eberspacher (others give it a different name lol) drains the battery.

Enjoy your trips.

Our old Eber did have a bit of a roar/whine to it outside but not enought to disturb others, the only real noise inside apart from the sound of the fan was the ticking of the fuel pump.

I think you have to have the correct length exhaust and inlet pipes or you do get excess noise from them.

I have a mikuni night heater which has similar noise problems I tend not to use it late at night unless parked up far from others or turn it on for a short period of time to initially heat the van or dry clothing and I carry a small electric fan heater.... the heat from mine being such that it becomes uncomfortably hot inside the van very quickly anyway...

We have an eberspacher and do use it if we are cold.

However we have found that if it is cold enough to put it on, then most people are inside their vans and not sitting outside so would certainly not be affected. It is only ever on for half an hour as a booster and then we use the electric hook up with the mini oil filled radiator which maintains the heat well.

It is a bit noisy so I always pop outside and walk to nearest neighbour particularly if they are in a tent just to see if it could be annoying to them.

From a tenters viewpoint these units should have an ASBO slapped on them.

On a recent break some kind soul had his going at 4 in the morning.  I put up with it for an hour but had to get up and ask him to turn it off.

The RAF jet comparison is very apt!!

some sites dont allow them running at night now because of complaints, and rightly so,the are very noisy,go to a hgv haulage company and ask if they can help you with quitening yours down as the ones fitted to lorries are super quiet.

Think this year is to follow old meet friends for 2014.
If you cant do someone a good turn, don`t do them a bad one,its nice to be nice you know, and little things mean much more later in life.
Pete.
