In order to run a laptop or DVD player in a caravanette where there is no mains hookup eg when driving, is it better to plug straight into an inverter or to use a manufacturer provided cigar lighter adaptor? Is there any noticable difference in performance? If an inverter is preferable then are there any recommendations?

If the manufacturer has provided an adaptor for the cigar lighter then it would be better to use that rather than an inverter.
