Hi.  As a newbie to the site, I thought I'd ask my 1st question.

I've just bought a '96 Swift Royale and it could do with the metal strips that run along the length of the roof at both sides (Where the roof meets the sides) re-sealing.

I'm not sure where to begin, what products to use etc etc.  I'd imagine that it's a case of prising out the coloured rubberish strip, unscrewing the alloy strip, somehow removing the existing, failed sealant / mastic then "Roughing up" the surfaces, applying a "Magic product" and screwing back down the alloy strips . . . . . though I may be totally wrong.

Can anyone help with a step by step "Iddiot proof" guide to how to do this correctly and what product to use to re-seal / stick the alloy strip back please?

Many thanks in advance

Hi Reggie Beat & welcome

First off is it leaking? if not dont fix what aint broke, as you could open up a can of worms, theres loads of products on the market sealant wise, some better than others, my advise is to post this same question in the caravan fix it forum, as the shed draggers seem to have more problems with seals than MH's. Quiet a few have done detailed pictures & step by step instructions of how to go about such a task & what are the best tried & tested sealants to use & where to purchase them from etc

Your way of thinking of how to remove the strip is correct, but you will need a little spreader tool to reinstall the coloured rubberish strip, it can be done with a screwdriver but takes forever

Mick, thanks a bunch for your response, the Wizard's site seems to answer all my questions.  I'll contact him for a little confirmation on a couple of points but fanx to you.
