Having put up with with my ' five-foot-nine' scalp bumping into the upper storage door when left open by OH a few times, decided to check why. If someone at Autosleepers had fixed the bracket 1 inch back towards the middle of the door as I have just done, it would raise the door nearer the roof out of the way.
Thanks wineciccio! We opened a bottle in any case! Our Duetto is 12yrs old, but we've had it 2yrs. I noticed on a later Duetto the door had a different bracket but it still hung down at head bumping height. Maybe it's done intentional so's you don't drive off with it open!!
Well i apologise for my sarcasm but sometime one cannot help onesefl, yes i have banged my head hundreds of time when i had Volkswagen campers. Hope you enjoy your Duetto for many miles to come.
Well, this 76yr old scalp guessed it was a little sarcasm, but apology accepted. I just thought by telling how easy it was to fix, someone with the same problem might have a go. I didn't think ours would be a one-off.
You do realize that now you have moved the door up out of the way you will bang your head on the 'locker' itself! I think it was fitted as it was to remind us that the locker needs to be ducked under. If, like me you forget about both, you might want to consider a helmet!! I had a boat some years ago that had a brass, embossed, plate above the main cabin door that said 'mind your head'. Didn't work for me, so I replaced it with some foam pipe lagging. That did the trick. I never once banged my head on that.
Hi Deadloss, I don't quite get you about bumping into the locker. It was coming in from the side sliding door or walking fom rear to front that one could hit your head on the edge of the door if it was left open. By just making two little holes with a bradawl and moving the bracket back one inch and rescrewing it, it raised the door up out of harms way. Dead simple for anyone to do. I'm going to have a look at doing the same to the doors of the cupboards over the the kitchen area. Why put up with these little hazards if they are not necessary. If it was a workplace I'm sure 'elf & safety' would have something to say about it. Anyway my OH is pleased when rummaging in the locker she has plenty of clearance overhead.
Hi Deadloss, has your wife finished those jobs on the fence, decking, and patio yet?
If so, I can now tell you she'll have an easy job raising those doors over the kitchen area. I emailed Autosleepers to see if they now fitted any adjustable hinges to raise the doors out of head bumping height. After a long delay they replied they didn't, so yesterday I removed the two screws from the bracket and found that raising the doors the limit the bracket could be moved back was 13/16th of an inch.... (12.5mm for those under 60!) Two holes with a bradawl and refit, this raised the doors a good two inches. Instead of being at bridge of my nose height they are now tolerably nearer my hair line. My OH is also pleased she can now leave them open while working in the stove area. It was so easy and quick to do I can only assume Autosleepers have small workers fitting them! If you are around 5'9" like me (175mm) get your wife on to it ASAP, it's worth it, you'll enjoy your Duetto more!
She's busy under sealing the van at the moment but I'll get her on it as soon as she's finished that little job!
The missus is only 5'1" so I'll have to find some steps for her to work off. There's always something.........
The only trouble with retirement is you never get a day off!
Gosh! She's a good 'un Deadloss. You really struck lucky with her, but make sure she cleans that black stuff off her hands before she starts on those kitchen doors or making you sandwiches!
I agree with you, so called retirement is never ending work! Don't tell me, I bet you were knackered stirring that heavy underseal so's it was easier for your wife when she got underneath the van,.......
