Does anyone remember the Bedford Romany camper with the amazing pram roof? We had one in the 1960's, it was yellow and white and the reg no was 41MVP. We've had campers ever since but none of them compared with the layout and versatility of the Romany. If I could buy one now I would! Why someone doesn't use the Romany layout and the pram elevating roof I cannot understand. Within the roof there were 2 bunks which held up to 15 stone in weight. The roof was high enough to allow the people in the bunk to sit up in the bunk. The seats converted into two singles or a double bed. You could have one single bed down whilst on the move. When we first had it, there were few campers around and when touring Europe it actually stopped traffic and the police had to clear the way for us to go on. We have so many fond memories of our Yellow Devil, it would be wonderful if they were still around.
I remember we hired one from Wellgate Motors in Clitheroe when I was but a child, and took it to Cornwall. It was great, and I did sleep in one of the upper bunks. Wouldn't manage tha now though.
