We have just picked up our Motorhome, Fiat Autotrail Apache 700, the weather forecast is looking good for the weekend. We are in Liverpool, any suggestions on where our first trip could be? also, any tips for the first timers ?
Welcome to the forum, the best tip for you would be to familiarise yourselves with all your interior workings etc have a practice on loading your cupboards etc , do you need an electric hook up or do you carry a genny , but you should have a leisure battery anyway.Make sure you have water in your tanks etc fill up with diesel and hit the roads.
There are plenty of places you can travel to in shepton mallet there is a massive motorhome show this weekend, there is motorcycle racing in 3 sisters thats towards wigan, ( i will be there this weekend ) or you can head out towards north wales so really there is no limit to what you can do for your first trip .
Most of all make sure you enjoy it , if poss take your camera and post some pics on the forum, If you want to see what you can really do on weekends look at kernow campers postings and blog that will give you a good insight.
Hope this helps in some way.
Let us all know how you get on.
Delboy
------------- you may be frustrated now but infront of me there is a big incline . yeh it may be slow but it is in front
Many thanks for your response, I've been dreaming about one for years, but its actually here now and I must admit a little scared! We would be looking for a nice site, pub / entertainment but not too touristy ! any suggestions in North Wales?
Also, we have a van which just over 23 feet, do we need to hire two pitches ?
If you are going to North Wales you don't really need to book onto sites at all unless you absolutely must have hook-up. As long as you don't do anything silly like trying to stay at the same place all day and all night most places will allow overnighting. If you go to Llanberis you can park in the lakeside car park (Cardigan side)overnight. The Snowdonia railway goes from here. If you want to go on the railway best to book on line as when we were there the trains were fully booked; it is quite expensive at 25.00 each but unless you are able to walk to the summit it is an experience to remember. nb dogs are not allowed on the trains.
We tend to wildcamp usually but in the past we have used the HAVEN Late Deals sometimes you can get really cheap deals especially if you can go mid week. We are also members of the Motorcaravan Club, they have rallies you can attend all over the country at very reasonable prices.
Hi there I agee with ED motor caravan club is more in line with what you need, Hi ED got my ferry booked for October, Portsmouth to Bilbao, will I see you in Portugal this winter or you got other plans all the best Bob
Hope to be in Portugal around the end of February (can't get away any sooner) but will have to get back by the end of April. Let us know where you get to & maybe we can meet up again.
Given the 'first' outing is more of a test run to familiarise yourself with the workings of the 'bus', wouldnt it be just as easy to go just a few miles 'down the road'? Far enough from home, but not miles and miles away so that youre travelling as opposed to testing?
Why not join the Camping and Caravanning club, they have meets/rallies/get together if you know what i mean throughout Lancashire/ Merseyside, there is always one near you i garantee you that, this weekend we attended one in Burscough,Omskirk. which was only 5 miles away. And its such a friendly club, well you know the song ie, you never walk alone? with them it is you never camp alone, there is always someone to give you advices/cup of tea/ coffe/ or better still a good glass of the red stuff, try it. ciao
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
