Hello,

I am looking at moving from caravanning to motorhoming and have seen a 1985 Autohomes Merlin 4 berth which fits my (low) price band!! :-)

Some newbie questions:

Regarding weights.. does anyone know what weight this motorhome would have?

Licenses -  i presume a standard driving license is ok provided the weights stack up?

If anyone has further info on this model I would greatly appreciate it.

thanks! :)

hi mate dont know the weights but i had a merlin i think they are a great machine , is it petrol or diesel /

you should have no bother with either engine the only thing you have to keep an eye on is the inner wing bays (although they are easy to weld up) and like any other motorhome watch out for damp but if it fits your budget and you like it go for it.

Delboy

I have an old 1989 Elddis (as in my gallery) it a Fiat cab that are I think is the same as the Talbot, mine is a 2ltr petrol done 103.000 now and had no probs at all and returns arround 28 Mpg on a nice steady run, mine was waxoiled from new and it dont have any rust probs, only had to replace normal things that wear like brake pads, plugs & and couple of tyres in the 5 odd years we have had it,hope you enjoy it if you get it,we love ours as old as it may be.

Think this year is to follow old meet friends for 2014.
If you cant do someone a good turn, don`t do them a bad one,its nice to be nice you know, and little things mean much more later in life.
Pete.

Hi

We have a 1987 Talbot Merlin motorhome, the weight is just under 3 1/2 tonne, so you can drive it on a normal licence. We have had ours for almost 3 years, we go away nearly every weekend in it, both winter and summer, it is very spacious, comfortable, and extremely cozy with the fire on in the winter.

We have the 2 litre petrol version, which does around 23 miles to the gallon. It has always been very reliable, we love it, and wouldn't be without.
