I am considering towing a smart car on an A Frame behind a ducato based 2.3 Autotrail Cheyenne 632 Motorhome. It does tend at the moment to struggle slightly when tackleing hills. Has any one out there towed on a similar vehicle? Any advice gratefully received.

I've pulled various things behind our MH but never a Smart car – not sure of the weight of the car – when I did a couple of Classic Car Shows last year I towed my twin wheeled trailer full of stock weighing approx 1800kg and never knew it was there.

MH was Peugeot 2.2 TDi

You mention that it struggles up hill – when did you last have it serviced, as a 2.3 Diesel engine should have sufficient torque to take you up a hill in most cases, but I suppose it depends on how much gear you have packed in there and what it kerb weight is!

Thanks for reply Griswolds

My MH is gross weight 3.5 ton, with a user payload of 420 kgs which we never exceed. The smart car weighs 900 kgs and it has been serviced at reguler intervals. The MH has only done 13000 miles and is 3 years old, I am thinking of having it remapped to see if this would help.

By the way I am not a speed merchant!!

   Many thanks Steve
