Hi all.

First trip away after the winter last weekend. Electrics have gone mad!!

No 12v system inside to start with. Hook up to mains gives us 240v system through 3 pin plugs but nothing converting to the 12v lighting etc.

However, briefly turn over the engine and hey presto, everything works!! You can then turn engine off and remove key, everything stays on OK until the mains hook up is switched off. The it is back  the start.

Any ideas please before I pull all my hair out!!

Sounds like your leisure battery is dead, or not being charged by the 240 volt charger

You would think so.....but meter shows both batteries at 12.5 v!

Hi

if you have a multimeter without hook up connected turn your engine on then meter should show more than 13v then battery charger is fine.then check in line fuse as not blown which is near the main one not the second battery.fuse might look fine but if you have spare fuse try that to make sure. good luck

At 12.5v your batteries are almost certainly fully discharged. A fully charged good battery will read around 13.2v but normally 12.8v is still acceptable.

The ambient temperature will also affect a batteries power.

You should check the batteries voltage with your meter without the vehicles charger running i.e. batteries still fitted to the vehicle but without the engine running and no external 240v supply plugged in. Then check it with just the engine running and again with just an external 240v supply. This will tell you if there’s a charging problem and which side of the charging system is at fault.

Leisure batteries can take a far deeper discharge than car batteries but they will reach a point (age or long period of discharge) where they simply won’t hold a usable power supply.

Well having read the origional posting it could even be a relay sticking or a very bad short.
