I bought a standard home security camera from macro to use as a reversing camera on my motorhome..

works great ....but for one thing..the view to rear is shown reversed( a bit unnerving as it looks like you're being overtaken up the hardshoulder)..does any techi lecci out there know how to reverse the polarity...?I'm sure I read many years ago that this could be done..the camera works great and  the monitor sits nicely on the dash. it is water proof

Reversing the polarity will not work it will probably blow it up.....I think what you mean is that you have a mirror image. As far as I know there is nothing on the market that will convert the image to "real time".

I asked this question a few weeks ago and it seems that if its a standard cathode tube type set the field coil (?) wiring can be reversed to change the picture round

Look back a little or do a search for reversing cameras for full details.

The LCD TV it was decided could not be reversed unless it was a feature of the original TV

I posted my solution which works really well as a permanent rear view on the caravan

I have a Chubb CCTV colour camera (£15 from car boot) which I was using to feed a 10in colour TV in the boot viewed though the car rear view mirror .This gave the view the right way round but suffered from sunlight on the screen

This Spring I bought a 4in LCD colour TV for £59 (graded stock) but as that was being viewed directly it gave that reversed image problem.

I now have an old Smat convex mirror at 45degrees to the caravan rear window and the camera points across the van into it.The whole unit is on one compact bracket and takes less time than the towing mirrors to mount

The result is very pleasing and apart from when there is  rain on the window gives an excellent rock steady picture

I agree that the obvious way to get a mirror image is to view it through a mirror. Would it not be possible to view the monitor through a mirror to avoid bad visibilty when it is raining? Perhaps a stick-on rear view mirror on the windscreen, you could even use a 'vanity mirror' which would give a better aspect ratio.

The rain problem is not on the mirror which is inside it is on the window through which the camera points

I can't see any way round that when it rains except staying put until the sun shines

With my wife's disability she is unable to keep up with the van when we are doing 60mph on the motorway and so can not wipe the window effectively

My last post seems to have disappeared into the quagmire so here it is again.

What about rear window wipers? Lots of cars have them so why not Motorhomes. Any entrepreneurs listening?

My ever resourceful husband sugests that you lash your wife securely to the roof ladder and arm her with the appropriate length squeegee.

As its a caravan with no ladder that could be a problem

HRH is 66 next week so I suppose abseiling lessons as a birthday present  would be an investment as the rear Heki roof light would provide a suitable exit point.

She would be as unimpressed by that as she was when I suggested that having just spent £200 on repairs to the Carver mover including handset upgrade that the said handset would make an ideal birthday present

I answered on this site because I have been trying to solve the reverse image problem myself.

The answer really is to spend a LOT more money and buy the right monitor with reversible picture

But that takes all the fun out of it
