Does anyone know where one can go learn & also how to get a licence to drive a motorhome over 3.5 tonnes? I'm allowed to drive it because I have C1 on my driving licence cos I passed before 1997. However my lad is 26 & passed his test Feb 04 so he does not. I'd be grateful for any advice. We're in Portsmouth.

BTW, I've put name on list with caravan club for 2005 but is there anything else?

Click on logo to visit DVLA Site that this quote comes from.

If you wish to apply for a licence to drive vehicles over 3,500kgs, minibuses and buses you must complete driving licence application form D2 (available from DVLA Local Offices, Vehicle Operators Services, DSA, LGV and PCV test centres, Traffic Area Offices, LGV and PCV training schools and direct from DVLA), and enclose your current driving licence together with the appropriate fee.

If this is your first application to drive these larger vehicles, or you are renewing your licence, you must get a doctor to fill in a medical report form D4 (which is also available from post offices and DVLA) and ensure that all the relevant questions are completed.

If you passed your car test after 1/1/97 and want to drive medium sized vehicles (category C1)  you will need to take a further driving test.

The licence that your son holds should act as a Provisional for this category.

If you look in your Yellow Pages under "Driving Schools - Commercial" you should find instructors who will be able to teach the necessary manouevres that will be needed, and  prepare your son for the test.

If you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, just keep going till you go round the bend.
