has anyone got advice on doing this including good companies to use, good models to look for when never driven anything so big before ( just 2 of us) would ideally like loo and shower tho

HI Bara lots of carhire companies rent them these days , as for choice if you want to hire you have to take what is offered , rental companies use the the best deal for them so your choice will be limited. Saying that you will probably get a top range motorhome with loo and shower and heating etc.

Hope this helps in some way , but please let us all know the outcome.

Took our hired one back yesterday. We hired it for a week and really enjoyed it. It was  a Swift Sundance 590RS, only 5 months old.It cost £650 for the week.We hired it from Manchester Motor Homes.(a couple of minutes off the M60) It was easy to drive and sat nav and rear view camera were part of the package.

We went down to South Wales at first to visit relatives(parked in the drive, hooked up)then went along to Pembrokeshire and stayed at Freshwater East CC Site then on  a very rainy and blustery Friday we drove all the way up to Anglesey and stayed at a beautiful CC site for three days.We loved the motorhome and are now looking for one to buy. Hiring one was the best thing we did. It really made our minds up. We sold the caravan in August and we weren't too sure whether we would like motorhoming or not.We parked in some beautiful spots and just put the kettle on.

If you do hire one then try to get one no longer than 21ft.We found that long enough when we tried parking at shops, pubs etc.
