Well took out every thing in m/home that we might not need and 2 bikes weighed them and we are still overweight?????? Pepe63 mentioned re-plating the van does anyone know if it is possible to do this to a 97 fiat ducatto swift royale 630
h, speak to gareth marsh at sv tec on 01772 621800 he,s the man to ask . you need al the details off you plate on vehicle but he will explain all. very good chap. cheers alan.
..as mentioned elsewhere on these boards, our van had already been "re-plated" when we bought it(.. but apparently the Renault chassis was already type approved for 3.85t anyway,so it was only a case of getting the paperwork to confirm it).
...I suppose in some cases, some suspension work, etc may be required though..?
Well,no ours' had been "re-plated" before we bought it,presumably by the previous owner or at the time of ordering from new(as the additional 3.85t plate carried the Trigano name..)
The problem we had(and it did turn out to be a helluva headache!),was that although the vehicle had the plate showing the 3.85t,the V5 document only showed it being 3.5t! and dvla refused to alter the log book, until I produced the paperwork to back up the re-plate'(..paperwork,we weren't in possesion of! )
..So,there followed numerous letters/photgraphs/phone calls/visits to local DVLA & VOSA offices etc!?!...To cut a (very!)long story short,I ended up contacting Trigano in France and they sent me over a certificate within the week(..no charge,as I suppose it was really a replacement document)..
But of cause as you will be handling the process yourself, then you will be issued with the documents from the off!..
Edit: Just to add dvla accepted the Trigano certificate, changed the V5 to 3.85t and then refunded some road tax! ..as 3.85t is classed as Private HGV and is only £165
Yes I,m hoping it won,t be to painfull but it has to be done -----I,v taken everything out of the m/home that I could and was hoping to get back and weight it again but I think I,m clutching at straws,
try writting a letter to the makers of your conversion .it may not cost anything then. you do have to remember svtec do charge its what they do for a living. but yo can do it all your self if you take your time and document every thing . you will end up with a new log book and have to make a new plate for vehicle but this can be a sticker type item . many print shops can make these cheaply. speak nicely with your local dvla . i find ours very helpfull.
Hi all------Story so far is I spoke to Steve at svteck and filled in a online form with weights gvw-gtw axles etc, and so far he thinks he can get the m/home uprated I,m sure the price quoted was about £300 a lot of money but it is well worth it because the m/home will be road legal.
It may still well be worth just doing as Alan suggested and contacting the vehicle manufacture though...you never know, your vehicle chassis may also be type approved up to 3.8T already(as my Renault was)and if that's the case they'll be able to just supply you with a certificate..
It's certainly worth asking the question before you part with any money...
