We wanted to save a few pennies on our last trip to the Harz mountains in Germany last week, so we stayed on a stellplatz for two nights in Braunlage.
It cost 9.5 Euro per night and we hooked up to their electric for 50c per KWh.
The day we left we were presented with a 20 Euro electric bill!!!!! ...apparantly this is down to us using the electric for our blown air heating and our hot plate on the cooker.
I double checked the electric readings on the meter, before and after use, but it still seems like a lot of money for two nights use.
The site itself is well located for the town center and for the cable car up to the top of the Wurmberg where there is a fantastic panoramic view for 60 miles, from the top of the Ski jump.

Why not look what power your heating and hot plate are - you can then easily work out how much power you used i.e. heating and hotplate on for x number of hours each, multiplied by the power (in Kilowatts) of each, will give you the KwHs used.

50c per kwh doesn't sound a lot, but it soon adds up. At that rate, 20 euros is only 40 x 1Kwh

Two nights is 35 - 40 hours - so even with the heating on low at 1Kw you'll rack up a bill of 17.5 - 20 euros, add in the hotplate and other things and it's easy to see why it was so much.

Stick to gas next time!

We have learned the hard way, I hope our mistake will help others to avoid this costly one.
The concensus is use gas next time then?
