Sorry but I have another question now!
We are going to live fulltime in Motorhome and I have bought a TV from Currys, normal 19" Digital LCD + Freeview.
I have now been told that I should have purchased a portable TV specially for MH or Caravan.
Is this correct or will a normal TV work depending on local reception?
Thanks for any advice offered. Anne
The only reason not to buy a standard household TV would is if you wanted to use it on a 12v power supply. If you will always have a mains connection you should not experience a problem.
Hi, a lot of TV,s are 12v now they just have an external power supply, saves the manufacture having the build in a transformer in a flat screen TV.just plug them in your 12v, I've never had any problems with over voltage on my 12v system.
My only reservation with a TV designed for home use is if it will stand up to the bumping and vibration that can occure in a driven vehicle. I would hope that the ones developed for the camping market would be manufactured to meet those challenges, although I dont know if they are. Good luck with it and enjoy it.
we bought a normal 19 inch from morrisons a year ago and we drive around quite a lot and the tv is as good as new and working well, we kep the polystyrene moulds and we put it in them when travelling stops all the bumps around in the overhead locker when traqvelling and we have done over 2000 miles since we bought it . we are on hook up all the time and even though we do have a 12 volt tv the screen is smaller so we watch the 19 inch one mostly we have a plug in dongle thing that we use to watch tv on th lap top and usually tape anything we want to keep or watch again on that.

I purchased a 19" tv/dvd from asda a couple of years ago...removed the 240 transformer and fitted a cigarette type plug to fit in my camper van ..it sits on a swing out backet and has been used regularly giving no problem...my campervan is also my every day transport so the tv has put up with the bangs associated with everyday town driving.....
I too have just bought a 19 inch Lcd/ Dvd 240v, but also a 300w inverter From maplins , so it can work from the cigarette lighter, for £25.00p, and my ariel is a little digital ariel stuck on a pole 12ft high and the picture is great, with the built in freeview, and next year the signals will only get better when they swap over from analogue
First of all good luck living in your motor home full time, i would love too, are you travelling or do you have a permanent place to park, telly should not be a prob, i bought a 19" 240volt from tesco for a £100, freeview etc, works great, i bought a digital ariel from maplins for £20 and attatch it to a 6ft pole when on site, travelled scotland this autumn for 6weeks and never failed to get a picture..........
I have secured a job in another part of the country so going to live there but keeping the house. We are leaving 4 sons living in it!! If job doesn't work out will come back, but I dread to think what state the house will be in!. We are hoping we can stay on the site I have chosen for as long as possible but this 28 day rule is a bit of pain. Hope we can get round it.
Hey Sunseeker, just seen your post about New Year in the Forest of Dean.
That is where my job is and we go on 30th Dec as I start on 4th Jan. Husband and me will be having a New Years Party in motorhome! I don't think!! Maybe a few glasses and a curry! That will do me.
Well I be blowed AC, we go there several times a year, I love the place, tho the forestry commision and the camping and caravaning club have become mega greedy by closing down the woodlands campsite and building new forest lodges that cost an arm and a leg to stay in, must be thousands of square miles of forest there and they had to close the most popular campsite to make even more money, I mself applied for site attendants job there this season, but when i found out from Lizzie who is in charge of recruitment that i would have to do team building courses, accounting courses, for a few days just to get a job cutting the grass and cleaning the bogs, i thought, nah cant be bothered.........
Good luck and maybe see you there sometime............
