There isnt much I would change regards my self-converted micro camper; however running the EHU cable through a side window and taping up the gap-is a pain in the bum. Aside from not being weatherproof and a security risk when Im away from the van when its on site.

So made some enquiries about getting a permanent electric hook-up point as most campervans/motorhomes have. The guys that did my pop-up roof showed me one that they had installed on a Kangoo- very similar to my Doblo- looked the job ! Its just a small flap on the outside like a petrol filler one and a small mounted box inside. Total cost about £200.00. Will take a day to fit-so Im getting it done in January. Will make my camping life so much easier- happy !!

Small point...Mention to 'em that when they cut the hole, at least put a bit of primer on the bare edges or you will get rust streaks.

I suppose it all depends on how close your doors and bodywork seems are..

On some of the vehicles I've had in the past, you could've quite easily passed a bl**dy hosepipe through some of the gaps!

Do you know of anyone who could do a professional job cheaper than £200.00 ? Because I don't.

Ill try it tomorrow. But I think my back  van doors are a snug fit so how Id get an EHU cable into the van through the back and close/lock them securely Im not really sure.....

Socket & consumer unit etc will be £70 + labour at commercial rates + vat would about £200, one would hope they would do a decent job for that sum, including painting the bare metal edges after the hole has been cut.

The guys who gave me the quote build motorhomes/do conversions full-time. They did my pop-up roof- very nice job. I trust them that I will get a professional job done at a fair price. Considering I only paid just over £2000.00 for my van , I dont mind an extra £200. for the convenience of a quick hook-up

My Doblo has a tailgate, not doors - may not work with yours, but the rubber seals and door gaps are usually big enough to pass a cable through, probably in one of the corners at the bottom.

I will have a go in the morning ;but I have the 2 door version-open from the middle. I can't recall noticing any gaps big enough to fit a cable through but will try anyway thanks.

You dont say what vehicle it is going into (unless I am blind) but most cars/vans have gromits for tow bar electrics so. you can run the cable in the same hole so dont have to drill more.

To get someone to do that sounds the going rate, but I would do it my self, not difficult to drill a hole in the side of a vehicle and then fix the box in. I installed an external electirical socket to my vehicle and it did not take more than 1 hour. Is exactly the same principle
