Emptied everything I could think of when shut the Van down for the winter but forgot the cistern flush tank for the loo and its frozen solid!! New to Motorhoming and it shows!! Has this happened to anyone else and did it split when it thawed (I am about to find out)
Hi littlewinnie, and Welcome to the forum,Not happened to me yet,but if your cistern was not full there may be room for the ice to expand and you may be lucky to get away with it this time, hopefuly thats the case, good luck, and keep us posted.
------------- If everything runs smoothly then I must have done something wrong
If in Doubt Check it Out.
this is how you sort it works every time.. you need a wall paper steam stripper, fill it up,plug it in, borrow the wifes oven glove, remove the paddle from the end so you just have the pipe hold it in the oven glove melt the ice gently with the steam when it gets to temp .. i also do frozen engines this way .. works a treat
Our fresh water tank froze but luckily it wasnt full and the ice must have expanded upwards as it didnt burst any pipes thank god.
The pipe leading from the water tank to outside froze as well, that didnt have nywhere to go and that havent burst,I was dreading the thaw as I thought we would have an expensive reapair job on the water pipes but He up there must have been with us!!!

Any splits/damage is done when they freeze, you only find out when they thaw. Id say you should be able to see any cistern damage from the start, as most of it is on view in the loo. Try keep some form of low heating in the van over the freezing periods. It stops condensation on the hard surfaces. And keep the locker/cupboard/loo doors all open, so the temp is the same everywhere.
Ive had a little oil heater going at around 4 deg. 24/7 during the freeze, and you can tell. The inside of the van is aired and dry, with none of the mustiness you can get once they get really cold. And all the the soft furnishings are still in there as well.
