Hi,

I'm planning to take our Burstner Travel Van to the Alps this month and would like some advice about using the Webasto Diesel (Dual Top) heater.  We've only had the motorhome since July, so I'm fairly new to all this!

My plan is to leave the Webasto on a low 'heating only' setting during the day and turn it up to full power [heating and hot water] in the evenings.  I presume the 'low setting' will keep the unit ticking, and prevent it dumping the 11 litres in the boiler when the temperature is below 6degC.  Are the pipes and the water supply tank still likely to freeze?  If it freezes, will it unfreeze if I turn it to 'heating and hot water' in the evening?

I've noticed that I get some hot water even if the Webasto is set for 'heating only'.  Is this normal, and how much power does the Webasto consume?  Is it likely to flatten my battery if I leave it on all day?

Any help would be most appreciated!

Regards

Richard.

Hi,

We have a webasto fitted in our motorhome, I am no expert but can just tell you our experience. Last year we used heater every weekend we were away in the winter lowest temperature was -8 and and we left the heater on from the moment with collected it from storage to the moment we dropped it back off.  We had it on a low setting most of that time and only turned it up for a couple of hours in the evening whilst watching tv. We never had any trouble with frozen pipes and the battery never went flat. I would also say we used about 1/4 tank of deisel and that was from Friday afternoon to Sunday teatime and heating was ran constantly.

We have had other motorhomes with other heaters and in my opion the Webasto has definately been the best.  I like that it can be used whilst travelling so passengers in the back are also warm and it also means that when you arrive at your site the van is already warm and cosy.  It is sometimes a little noisy but you get used it after a while.

If I can help anymore just let me know.

Sandra.
