Can anyone recommend a company which makes or supplies shaped mattresses for motorhomes? We have a Hobby with a fixed bed and at the moment we have 2 single mattresses to allow access to the underbed storage, but it is sagging in the middle and one of us ends up stuck in a hole for most of the night! We are thinking about having a complete mattress as we need to take the bed apart to get to the storage anyway, and usual access via the outside locker.

We figured that as we are planning to keep the van for some considerable time it would be worth investing in a decent mattress. any thoughts?

Having just bought a 2 year old van we have dumped the mattress and bought a memory foam one on  E-Bay for around £140 and just cut it to shape with a saw. A bread knife will also do it.

I think Jonic, who make the shaped bedding for caravans, sell mattresses.

i agree with mike as above, i have an old hymer, and the mattress on that was very tired, went to tj hughes and bought a 6" memory foam mattress for £140, it comes shrink wrapped and rolled into a handy box which even has fitted wheels for easy pulling along , as they are quite a weight, once home , unroll, take it out of its zippered protective fabric cover bag, lay the old mattress on it , mark with marker pen, cut off surplus with a sharp carving knife or similar, put protective cover back on, sew up excess cover, job done , and the matresses are very very comfortable..

Thanks for your helpful replies. We are liking the sound of DIY with a bread knife! Off to research memory foam mattresses.

When you buy a memory foam mattrass it does depend on how much memory foam you want as this varies. The cheaper the mattrass the less memory foam you get with the rest being made up of normal foam.

We bought a mattrass which has 3 inches of memory foam and 5 inches of normal foam.

Hi,

Just a little tip for cutting memory foam, we  used an electric carving knife, just marked the mattress with a felt tip and cut it in about 10 minutes.

Thank you for help. We have found a mattress that also has a cool mattress cover thingy, so no overheating!
