At the risk of sounding like a worzel... We have misplaced our motorhomes keys. Yes THE WHOLE BUNCH: cab doors, ignition, side door, locker doors, petrol cap, etc..., which, lets face is it pretty damn stupid!
Firstly is it possible to lock the motorhome, from outside, without a key (I don't think so), if so then hopefully we've locked the keys inside.
If not, any advice on how to get in AND how to replace.
We live on the Essex/Herts border if anyone knows of a helpful locksmith/ dealer/house breaker, (sorry, last one was a joke!!!)
Your help and advice will be very much appreciated.
Might be worth fitting a 'Whistleback' fob to them next time, the idea is you whistle and the fob cleverly picks up the sound electronically and whistles back. I bought mine from a gift shop in Scarborough about 2 years ago for around a tenner and its saved me a few anxious moments many times since!
There is a way to get into the domestic side door in caravans and motorhomes as long as they dont have deadlocks fitted. My Dad used to work as a baliff to the electricity industry, and was taught by the police the methods of gaining entry with least damage to reposess goods that were not paid for due to default on the credit agreement. Obviously im not going to divulge these methods on a public forum, only to say that a good locksmith should have learned them as part of his trade and will be able to open your van in seconds and will probably charge you around £70 for the privalage, but not until you have proved ownership of the motorhome, so you better get you reciepts and log book ready before you call him!
Edited to add that if anyone would like a key fineder fob there are many to choose from by googleing 'Sonic Keyfinder' they range from around £3 for a cheapy Chinese version, to around a tenner for one that Barks back!

------------- Just love to be out amoungst Nature and Wildlife
Celebrating 37 years of Caravanning in 2019, Recently Considered Retiring, but Totally Addicted for Life!
couple of ways in , pending the age a set od skeleton keys push down between the window and the doorframe so you can catch the opening bar to the lock, you can get them from ebay . Or place a wedge between the upper door frame and the cab/roof dont be scared to use a bit of force but obviously not to much or you will break a window then slide a loop of flat nylon packing strap into the cab fiddle with it until you get around the door opener give it a tug and bingo in you go.
Whole process will only take 10/15 mins at most With luck you will get in 20/30 secs.
Hope this helps

------------- you may be frustrated now but infront of me there is a big incline . yeh it may be slow but it is in front
If you have the usual levers for the windows then a bent bit of steel rod will open any window in 10 secs. Push the rod sideways under the rubber seal then turn it to push up the lever.
This is why I drilled holes in my levers and locked them to the frame to prevent this. Course if I lose my keys guess which creek I'll be sailing up.

Is it possible??...You bet - cos weve managed it!
Somehow, the mrs - YES it was the mrs - she was last out, managed to turn the door latch right across, which locked the door when she shut it behind her.
We got back in, by getting a side locker open, shoving the sofa cushions up into the van with a big stick, then inserting said mrs (AND culprit) into the locker, and up into the van.
Well i will divulge on here on how to get in ie. through the side door or the method will work for the main door as well, but be prepared to replace the lock afterward obviously, i would use the cheapest lock to replace, get yourself a decent long self tapping screw or bolt and don't be squeamish literally screw the damn thing into the lock that you wish to gain entry then with mole grips get hold of the screw or bolt and yank it out,, job done. Now for anyone that might think as what i did work wise, many many moons ago i worked for a scrapyard down south and we use to go round collecting cars that had no keys and that was the method we used to gain entry although our tool was rather like a sliding hammer to extract the locks, this method never fails. But i hope you will find the keys and don't have to resort to any methods to gain entry,
Get yourself a decent size self tapping screw/bolt choose the lock you wish to destroy to gain entry ie. side door or main door, i would choose the cheapest to replace, pair of molegrips and literally yank the lock out, job done. And before some of you might wonder as to what i did for a living, yes i did get around braking into pleoples cars quite legally may i add as i worked for a scrapyard down south and some time we worked for the local council ie, going round picking cars up that owners had just left to rot at the side of the road. That is the method i would use.
How on earth do you get rid of a post on here, i seem to have posted two replies to the same topic and i just can't get rid of one???? I didn't think the first one had gone through hence the second one. Too much vino i think,
We got the AA out and within a very short space of time he had opened the cab and we found the keys, so no need for screwbolts or molegrips!!! However this piece of info has been filed away, should it ever be needed in future.
Its ok shoving a self-tapper into the lock and yanking the barrel with molegrips. But, when you are LOCKED OUT of the van, in the middle of a field, where the hell do you find a screw, a driver, and a pair of mole grips??
At least i now my method of entry will work any time any place.
