Hi, we bought a motorhome and a drive away awning last year.
We have been throwing the lines over the top of the van to secure it on the other side. But to be honest it never looks flush and is a pain. It always ends up sagging and flapping about,
On the side of the van is a metal rail in the shape of a J, can we attach the awning to this ? and if so, how ?
Thanks

Do you mean its awning rail, same as on a caravan? If your awning has beading along the top edge it can be threaded thru to attach it to side of van but it won't be 'drive away'

its a long silver rail about 3/4 metres long, just above the side door from one end to the other ?
It looks like a letter J from the side ?
how do we attach the awning to this ?
as you can probably guess we are still new to this........
thanks

you use plastic figure of 8 ....the beading on your awning slides through the figure of 8 and it clips on to the j rail...

Hard to see from your picture. I guess if the rail is J shaped it will be for drainage. If your awning has beading then you could use figure of 8 as described above. Depending on shape of guttering this may come adrift in high winds tho.
Your awning may also come with a pole that slides into a tube that runs alongside the awning beading. this pole is designed to lie in the J shaped guttering & secured with a clamp at each end. This is generally the best method.

just to add to the figure of 8, that's what i use, BUT you will find in windy conditions the 8 rod will become detached in the middle of the J rail,to overcome this go buy some net curtain spring wire & attach the hooks to each end, hook 1 end into the 8 rod lip at mid point then run other end straight down & spike it into the ground with a tent peg,i know it sounds a tad basic but it works.
