DOES anyone know of an insurance company who will insure a motorhome which is stored abroad?

Why not insure it the country where it is stored? It will be subject to what ever "MOT" applies there and not a UK MOT so why not do the insurance there?

Thanks, I have had no luck with British firms. I want to tke the van out and fly out severaltiems inthe year and leave it in stroage in between and just bering it hoem once a year for the MOT. I am now trying to find a French or Spanish insurance company who will insure a uk resident. Anyone got any thoughts about which firms to try.

The other problem that you will have is getting the vehicle registered in France or Spain. I would check into that before you even attempt the insurance side of things

Unless you have an address in France/Spain you cannot register it there. If the van is on UK plates you have to have UK insurance. Saga & others will insure for all year in Europe but if you told them it was to be left unattended then I doubt you would be covered.

Possibly you could find a French insurer to insure it while stored. I know you can get French insurance for UK caravans stored permanently in France so you could enquire into this. If you post on the abroad forum you may get help as several members do this.

You would still need UK insurance for when you were driving the van & it would be a bit micky mouse because your UK insurer would have to not know you were storing van there.

If you can get an address in France/Spain you could register it there & get it on local plates, problem solved.

Getting a UK reg motorhome onto French plates is long/expensive process. You need certificate of conformity for chassis & a separate one for habitation. You would also have to change the headlights I guess. Dunno if Spain is easier.

Spain is a nightmare. I tried to get a Disco onto Spanish plates and the vehicle had even come from Spain in the first place. It had come to the UK and been registered here and it was a left hooker. I got it at the right price and thought that it would all be plain sailing. Not a bit of it; I ended up bringing it back to the UK and bought a vehicle out in Spain because it was easier
