The fuel consumption is brilliant. We used to have the Hi Lo and got between 45 & 50mpg.  We have now got the fixed roof R20 and getting the same.

3 different diesels in't Berlingo depending on age. Up to 05 you had the old 70bhp 1.9 non turbo diesel, slow & fuel consumption low 40s mpg, but cheaper on repairs than hdi diesel & should run for 200k miles(also fitted to earlier C15 van). On vans '00 until 05 there was also 90bhp 2litre hdi diesel, much quicker & fuel consumption high 40s mpg.

After 05 you have only hdi diesels 1.6litre in 75 & 90 bhp versions.

2 versions of the 1.9 diesel.
Up to 1999 a variant of the XUD engine that with proper servicing goes on for ever and very economical.
After 1999 till 2006 the 1.9 available is the DW8 engine, a development of the XUD but not as economical because it is stangled by the emmissions gubbins.

We have a 2000 Berlingo car with the DW8 and it has done over 160000 miles with only routine maintenance (we have had it from new and I do all my own servicing and repairs)

We also have one of the last Romahomes with this engine now approaching 50000. When we bought it we went for this engine, although it is slow and not as frugal on fuel, we save on servicing and repairs. Cost out the high mileage servicing with Citroen/Peugeot for the HDI engine.

By the way the 1.9 engine is one of the easiest to service
