Hi Doug, a leisure battery should have a pipe coming out which normally goes down and out through a hole in the floor. IMO A battery without this pipe is not suitable for use in a confined or enclosed area.

Phil,it not the leisure battery is just the "normal" battery and it does not have a vent pipe. But I take it from what you are saying that the gases are lighter than air so my vent should be near the bottom?

Hi again Doug, be very wary about enclosing a non-vented battery it can be quite dangerous. Can't you fit the starter battery under the bonnet?
Some experienced 'Battery Boffins' should chip in soon with some more knowledgeable advice.
Phil.

Doug, where is this battery located and what is its purpose in life?
The answer could also depend on whethor its charged properly or not
Not charged = Zig, Plug in systems and normal alternator charging (split charging)

George, its the battery for the engine which unfortunately is located in what is to become the "living quarters". I am maybe thinking about relocating it in the engine compartment now after what phil said. Thanks for your help again.
