Is there any one else  out there who like me try and do the right thing to keep the battery from flattening??? Have a swift MH (08) despite regular runs and a solar panel the ??? thing wouldnt start again, now its at a garage to see if the prob lies with the battery etc . Having visited the motorhome show at manchester swift seemed to have come up with an answer to prevent this problem by fitting a device in the key lock which isolates the battery when not in use. I am considering getting rid and getting a van conversion which i may use as a second car though its a mine field out there and who knows it they have the common prob of batteries running flat..............shame swift hadnt resolved this before i invested my hard earned savings in otherwise a lovely MH!!!!!

If its the latest model, you will find that like my ford, the electris are of a canbus system, therefore you cannot fit/retro fit lights or any gadget to the  wiring already in situ, and disconnecting the battery, you will loose the code for the radio/stereo and even the immobiliser code so watch out and have it tested by the base vehicle manufacturer.

And the ECU will have to go through a re-learn procedure.......

Provided theres nothing draining the battery while van is standing the problem is either alternator or battery. Any of these problems are easy enough for a competent garage to troubleshoot. While alternators generally don't fail these days, batteries can fail after 4yrs.

Have to agree, although the van is 08 that was when its first registered, the battery could have been in the van another year before conversion making it 5 years old, about the time some batteries start to expire. Easy checked and replaced with a quality battery. Good luck

Its either a duff cell in the battery, the alts. not putting enough in, or something like your alarm - or reversing camera always live, thats pulling the juice. I wouldnt bin a van just because the battery was going flat.

Day 2? Remind them its the battery going flat, not the gearbox thats gone!

Id have expected it back on my drive by day 2! Unless, youve taken it in and just told them to look at it when theyve a minute - which is always fatal?
