We use external covers in the winter or when the outside air temperature drops significantly. This is primarily to avoid heat loss and you get less condensation than using internal screens.
When the weather is warm we use internal reflective blinds to reduce the temperature inside the van and for privacy. If you are not using the van much outside of the warmer months you may find internal blinds suit your needs better, and they take up less room when not being used.
We use the genuine external Silverscreen on our MH. When it's cold it keeps us warm. When it's hot it keeps us cool. It takes two minutes to put in place - ditto to remove. When it's wet a quick rub down with a cloth is all that's required. When packed in its carrier bag I keep it behind the driver's seat. No sweat.
We have an external screen on our VW T5 and its great for warmth, blackout and there is no condensation in the morning unlike internal ones. I think its brand is polar and it was about £70.
I am also now the proud owner of a Toyota Hiace campervan! I'm also looking for external thermal screens! Lots to choose from. We used internal screens in our previous outfit and the condensation was awful. Hope you found what you needed.
Hi, we have just been away for 3 nights in van. Weather, as we arrived rain, buckets of the stuff, could have done with that at home, hose pipe ban! Next day cold and windy, several vans had thermal blinds, all except 1 looked terrible, No name on those, they just looked like baby elephant, sat on the bonnet....baggy, bulging, and blowing in wind. Last night, our last away, ( and a frost ) only 1 screencover looked like it was 'fitted' to the van,no bulging, creasing,or tunnels for wind to get into. IT WAS A SILVER SCREEN branded item, I walked across the field to look at it. They are not thick, padded il lfitting things at all.THEY WORK. I asked the guy. My next purchase is in the diary.....have to wait a few weeks, as we bought a windbreak whilst away. Like they say in MMM if it dont say silver screen on it ...it aint a silver screen! Oh, and they fold just like a bathroom towel....and weigh little.

Anyone have any advice on campervan windscreen covers, i.e are external or internal ones better?? Cost, the more you pay the better?? I have found some custom made ones online for about £150, then some cheap ones on ebay. Any help will be much appreciated. Many thanks.
Depending what vehicle you want it for. We have one of the silver screens. The thicker type for outside the c.van. It has a few of the little ties off, easily put on. Nothing else wrong with it. Grubby maybe have not looked at it lately.
Hi,the thing that is amazing is all the people who spend lots of money on motorhomes do not want to protect them,is it worth £200 pounds or more, nobody has mentioned that the condensation drips down the window into the back of the dash, then a little later the relays or electrics fail due to water getting into contacts etc, most of the cab electrics are behind the dash,so pay the money and protect your investment, silver screens are one of the best, easy to fit keeps you warm in winter and cool in summer, internal screens do nothing but cover the window.regards H.
