Hi all just returned from a great w/ end away in the Pilote to bedgellert ( Wales ) and have discovered a leak from a roof vent which has previously been sealed with silicone . I'm after some advise on what to use ?? is sikaflex what i need?? any comments welcome . Many thanks B .
Sikaflex 512 or any other polyurethene adhesive/sealant is best bet for easy repair if you don't want to completely remove skylight & redo properly, ie its good for bodge jobs because of its strength.
I spoke to one of the sealant manufacturers and they recommended RV61- it worked brilliantly- so far!
It is an industrial silicone that goes semi hard but retains its flexibility which is needed when the vehicle flexes when on the move.
it is also not affected when cleaning the vehicle with a brush which can affect some non- drying sealants.
got the stuff from caravan components in Yorkshire ,£9.80 incl pp

removing and cleaning it all down properly before resealing and reinstalling is still the best way though if you have time to do it, it also gives you chance to make sure any damp/wet areas are completely dry before refitting - shouldnt take much longer than 3 hours plus drying time for the wet areas etc
Have removed sky light and all existing sealant today . re sealed with sikaflex 221 and re fitted all looks well .Will let you know the results when it rains . many Thanks . B
