Fridge venting through the roof? be VERY carefull, if its a standard 3 way fridge they are designed to be vented quite close to the fridge unit and the flue's are sold specifically for that.
Installing a long tube could cause serious problems with the gas venting, check with the frisge manufacturer

OK thanks for that - that was my gut feel. Its prob best just to go for the compressor option. Costly, but safer :)

Be aware that if you go for the Waeco compressor fridge which comes with a cooling fan fitted to the cooling matrix you would be well advised to replace the fan with a super quiet computer fan costing around £15. The one fitted will be too noisy at night - unless they now fit quieter ones or you are a very heavy sleeper! Also if you are going to hot climes - 30+c, it would be best to fit a vent to the exterior to get rid of the hot air from the cooling matrix - other wise it acts as a very good van heater - not good at night!

Aha! the bed is, of course, next to the fridge! I have seen one which allows you to install the fan away from the fridge so I can put it in a cupboard away from the bed. Thanks for the advice.

I am probably being a bit thick here but the normal fridge flue is normally just over an inch to inch and a half diameter cut to the outside of the van so i am struggling with why it would cause major problems to the bus or are you talking about the ventilation to dissipate the heat in which case as long as the gas flue is to the out side and properly fitted venting the heat inside is not a problem (not ideal but not a problem)

The gas flu is vented INSIDE the bus - and to vent it outside it would have to go through a window next to another opening window so would blow back into the van when the window is open.

I think it would certainly be worth a phone call to Dometic tech dept I don't believe venting to the outside close to an open window to be a problem after all many van set ups have the fridge vents under their windows and also venting into their awnings when fitted and any fumes blowing back into the vehicle would be so mixed with fresh air as to be negligible
