Now i have been looking at inverters this morning (clearly not doing the work i'm paid to do).

150w inverters plug into the cigarette lighter, and George suggested wiring this into the leisure batterys and using a fuse. I would have to get someone marginally more knowledgeable than me to do this job.

I notice that 300w+  inverters have crocodile clips or clips that fit onto battery terminals. Do these just clip onto the leisure battery? If so, would it be better for me to get a 300/350w inverter and save the cash of having to pay someone to do the wiring of a 150w one?

So these are the inverters i've found:Maplin 150w soft start Inverter 12v = £30, Maplin 300w ss inverter 12v = £40,  300w regulated inverter 12v = £50, sterling 12v 150w quasi sine wave inverter = £40, sterling 350w inverter = £60.

So what do people think? Should i get the 300/350w one and clip it onto leisure battery or 150w and get someone to wire it in?

Also all this business with quasi sine / modified wave vs pure sine wave. Is a modified one ok for watching tv cos those pure wave ones boost the cost a fair bit?

I think i'm done now. Any more advice gratefully recieved

I don't know about the Quasi Sine this and that, but I do know that you can buy a ready made adaptor that has crocodile clips on one end and a cigarette lighter socket on the other. I'm surprised Maplin didn't have them in stock.

I used one of these adaptors last year to crocodile clip the bike battery and then plug my airbed pump into the lighter socket to blow the airbed up. It works great.

I got mine form Casey' camping shop in Chester, but I would expect any good camping shop to have them if Maplins don't.

I don't understand all these quasi sine waves either.

I've got a 300 w inverter which I bought at a V-Dub show for 30 odd quid. I have used it for a 115w slow cooker (but that runs the 85 aph battery flat in about 4 hours so I don't recommend it unless you can re-charge it straight away). We mainly use it for the DVD player, our little telly runs direct from the 12 volt. I have found the inverter is better connected direct to the battery via the croc clips, rather than via the 12 volt socket, probably due to voltage drop along the wire from the battery to the plug.

Hi Girl IC

Right I really dont like temp connections they are amateur, you can easily fit an inline fuse and switch it wont be a problem. its safer than using crock clips and to be honest ciggy socket plugs are not the best things for electrical connections either.

George.

PS you need help I will direct you to the parts and put up diagrams of how to do.
