As a neewbie to this forum and also to Motorhome Camping I am interested if anyone can point me in the right direction as to where I can purchase a Generator to operate items in my Motorhome such as T.V, Microwave, Radio etc, etc. whilst rough camping and visiting Motorhome shows where there are no hookups, and what sort of price would I have to pay.
Gennies - nasty horrid smelly noisy things not very popular with other campers.
Couldn't you manage without the microwave & just run stuff off your 12 volt for a couple of nights? Like the rest of us do?
Welcome to UK Camp Site, Ivor, sorry to welcome you with such a negative reply to your first question but I really don't like the things, unless they are necessary for medical reasons.

If you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, just keep going till you go round the bend.
Most people would say run off your 12volt for a couple of nights as they worry in case you pitch next to them. Gennies are noisy and smelly not very neighbour friendly.
If you are out in the middle of nowhere or in a lay by etc then a Genny might help. Watch out for the cheap little ones. The power quoted will be at high - peak revs. The output will aslo be very noisey electrically and can cause damage to electronics such as TV battery charger etc. Check the specs of them when buying, the cheapest may not be the best.

Here we are, miles from anyone and charging our batteries with the generator.
More amusing is the fact that the horizon is dominated by a power station and we are producing our own
Don't know who the yellow arrow belongs to though.
Thanks for your warm welcome and also for the interesting and valued advice you all gave me. Sorry for the delay in responding. Problem with my computer, now fixed.
I purchased a small 600 watt geny and found it quite good and I purchased a large plastic storage box that covered the genny having drilled a hole wear the air inlet to the genny is plus exhalst outlet , it kept the rain off and made it a lot quiter, also it was used to carry the genny in whilst on the van as they can leak oil slightly, but be warned my son used a large well known make and it blow the fuses on his van , when we check it out the genny was pushing out 400 volts plus, try using hook up where you can it saves a lot of hasel
Maybe some people are a little too sensitive, but I have never really been bothered by the small camping sort, its the large industrials that are way to noisey. if someones got a little Honda going and you are in your van I find you cant hear it.
Wild camping should be no prob.
If you want one big enough to drive a Microwave say the micro is 700 watts you will need a bigger Genny at least 1200w cont
you can pick up a 2500w genie for about £150 new.ebay, trucktrader. 2000w makro.however they are noisey.ide go for inverter 1800w 2000w with 2500w surge if running household freezer in van for compresor kick in.i bought a 1800w inverter of ebay from old jack chan of ebay for £200.had it a few weeks.whilst wiring electrics on van bairn switched on inverter whilst hooked up to mains, bang that was the end of that inverter, emailed jack chang explained what had happend and enquired about getting fixed.replied in a couple of days and sent a complete system less outer caseing from abroad free of charge.how can you argue with that.2 leisure batterys run all electrics ect,and i have some, for between week and fortnight, wired to engine alternator to charge whilst running.
