I'm currently building a Motorhome and want the fridge on the same side as the awning. As I don't want to get gassed, can I extend the vent to a position above the awning?
I would not think so, but for whatever the emissions will be from a small fridge I honestly do not think its going kill you, for a start on electric there is no emission, and on gas its very minimal, even with the awning fully closed, you will still get fresh air from under the vehicle coming in, doors open and shut. but always err on the safe side if unsure.
I'm sorry but you can, very early T2 VW had the vent extended in the inner frame of the vans and never vented outside, as far as know it never killed anyone, I had one of those vans.
Do not take any risks with carbon monoxide ! By all means seek advice from a Gas Safe Engineer but do it right. There are recent deaths, sadly caused by CO in awnings. You may escape poisoning but the next owner may not be so lucky if the wind is blowing the wrong way or not blowing at all. We never use our gas only fridge without checking the Carbon monoxide alarm is set and working.

Thanks, I know the risks, hence why I am asking. I will be extending the flue bend out above the awning and was wondering if anyone had done it before. A usual flue pipe only carries the gases a few cms, I was just seeing if any experience was about carrying the gases up the van?
