Just noticed a 10p sized hole and small crack in the overcab section of my Chausson Welcome (low profile). Have stuck a piece of gaffer tape over it for the time being to stop any water ingress, but would like any suggestions on a decent permanent repair method if possible. Thanks very much
Have you considered asking a Fibreglass Boat Builder if they can repair it for you?
I ask because we saw a similar thing on the back of a very expensive Camper and the owner was quoted £1800 for a new section.
I then suggested a boat builder who worked in fibreglass, he found one and the repair was carried out for less than 3 figures.
The cheapest repair would be with Isopon P40 which is chopped glass in resin. Works well & dries hard in a short while. Build it up in layers working from inside using a piece of perforated ali to bridge gap if required, sand smooth outside & paint. This would do the job for an old van but if yours is fairly new then it might be worth claiming off the insurance & get a proper job with new panel.
Cut a piece of plastic or fibreglass (from a scrapyard) into a lozenge shape to just push through the hole. Fix a small screw into the centre to hold the lozenge before inserting. Put glass fibre resin onto the rim of the lozenge and insert it into the hole. Turn the lozenge and pull carefully outwards so that it sticks inside the hole. Improvise with small sticks of timber to hold in position until dry and adhered to the inner surface. Remove the screw and fill the indentation with glass fibre resin. When dry, sand down and touch up with paint. hope this helps.

Someone holed my fathers boat hull,about a 50p size and he repaired it with a mixture of washing soda and cement. When it dried he sanded it down and painted it.
BTW my father was a yacht builder.
