Hi. My wife and I bought our first motorhome about 6 weeks ago. I have two problems:

1st.  There is  a high reading of damp above the cab in the front corners where         the bed is. The motorhome is a 1996 VW Merlin. On the outside bottom corners the rubber that fits in the middle of the aluminium strip came out a little bit which allowed water to get in. I have renewed the centre rubber, then put a heater in the motorhome and noticed the inside walls started to ripple slightly. Does this mean that the damp in the inside wall has been drawn out too quick?. Could anyone advise what to do to solve this problem.

2nd. The habitation door is very stiff to open and close and is pulling on the frame on the side of the motorhome can anyone tell me how to sort this problem?,

Thanking you all in advance for any help I may receive.

DerekG

Hi,Very sorry but you dont say if you bought it private or from a dealer,if a dealer then take it back as soon as possible,if private was it damp when you got it,perhaps its been covered and when you went to buy  they took the cover off, most overhead  campers leak through the windows or a seam in the roof, and it sounds like a problem that has been there quite a while, the door really needs to be done by a accident bodyshop,it is not easy to do it yourself, but you can try adjusting the door brackets, but is the frame itseft that needs sorting,,try other forums for more help someone has a motorhome like yours and should be able to help.H

As said above, if possible, take it back and get them(dealer?) to put it right..

If that isn't an option, then be aware that just renewing the plastic insert(Herzim Strip?) in an aluminium moulding will not be enough..it'll probably be the bedding mastic, underneath the moulding, that needs attention.

The moulding really needs to come off and be resealed...but NOT with silicon, use a decent PU sealant (Sika etc)

Also be aware that the damp may be a result of a leak elsewhere(..maybe from a window or skylight?...)

As for the hinges...Is it possible to tackle them one at a time(by removing/drilling out the fixings)and then soaking them with something like a *silicon spray lube and working them back and forth.....

(*if there's any plastic/nylon components, then WD40 can damage them).
