Got a little problem [betty]
The fridge will not light on gas, the gas is getting to cooker ok. Have taken outside panel off and given it a blast of con pressed air, it trys to light but just get a poping sound. Can hear sparker sparking. The fridge is in a2004 kon tiki you just turn the knob to gas setting and it starts sparking. We were hoping to get away boxing day for a few days. We are based near taunton somerset. If someone could help or send a thread would be most grateful. The gas bottle is full.
Possible air lock in gas line? I would try disconnecting electrics to stop the piezo sparking and turn on to gas. Allow a minute or so for gas to come through then shut off and allow to ventilate before reconnecting electrics and retry.
Are you sure the on/off stop cock in adjacent cupboard is not shut off?

I'm assuming you are using propane gas at this time of yr? Butane will not work reliably at low temps even above freezing, but apart from that I had the type of igniter you describe on a camper I used to own. I found that without a fully charged leisure battery it failed to ignite fridge. If your leisure battery is a bit weak then try igniting fridge with engine running so charger will be giving it full voltage.
You may well find that the igniter will not function if the engine is running as normally the electrics are isolated when running.Best do as said and allow gas to run for a moment or two before trying again.May need a service and a possible new jet fitted if sooted up. Good luck.
Yes, it depends on van, the one I described was from an 80s VW camper, but there appear to be 2 types of igniter on Electrolux/Dometic fridges, one you press twice, the other is automatic as described by op, it clicks away as soon as fridge is switched to gas mode & stops when fridge is lit, you then keep knob pressed in for 20secs until fridge stays alight.
The fridge became difficult to light & popped instead of lighting, this might have been a weak spark igniting too much gas & causing it to blow itself out. Turned out leisure battery was not holding its charge but I found that with engine running fast tickover there was good voltage across leisure battery so it had enough power to light fridge.
So. The story of the fridge continues, well it's lit, it coughed spluttered popped but she lit. Will be off tomorrow with cold beers and turkey. Think a service is due sooner than later. Thanks for your feedback

Hi, Had similar problem with our Thetford n80 fridge the gas was clicking but not lighting. We called a really nice guy out Richard Boulton based in Cumbria. He said they had a similar problem with gas hobs. The knob had been pushed too far down on the stalk of the gas valve. The valve was'nt opening enough. He eased the knob back with his fingers then repressed it it worked fine. I felt a bit stupid but he did not charge us for this 2 min fix. He said if it happens again pack the back of the knob with something to stop it moving down the stalk lol.....
