Would appreciate some input on this problem, we have a leak in the toilet area around the fan light now we have resealed all that needs resealing, no good, still drip drip drip so we called in a professional and he took out the fanlight and re-sealed the area he takes pride in his work guess what, drip drip drip, he came back free of charge because it bothered him and guess what drip drip drip !!! Arghhhhh....even after the horrendous rain this winter all that happened to the van was this little dew drop that keeps on and on. The chap who did the job has suggested there might be a tiny hole somewhere on the roof and water running into this making its way through he has now suggested that we apply a coat of waterproof paint they use on Yacht's, before I go down that road what is your opinion if you have one before I go insane...lol...
On a dry day when it is not dripping, get an assistant to play a hosepipe on the roof area around skylight & watch for the drip to begin. Then you should be able to locate the leak.
If he's properly resealed this vent and there's still a leak,then as your "chap" says, it's probably finding it's way in from somewhere else and is just making it's way through/along the roof lining to the vent/fan...
I would've thought that removing and resealing all other skylights,roof vents, aerials moulding seams etc would be the first thing to do...
Unless of cause the actual roof sheet material looks suspect, in which case, some form of "coating" may be in order...
I'd be reluctant to apply any coating to the body of the MH. It'll only peel off, or a bit of water will get in somewhere and lie trapped, potentially causing more damage. Have you considered just changing the rooflight? we resealed round ours, and we still had leaks (onto the front passenger, a bit more irritating....) but it turned out the plastic of the actual rooflight was brittle and letting water in through tiny cracks round the fixing screws. Didn't break the bank. Got ours online from leisureshopdirect.
Thanks all for your input, will re-think about re-coating the roof waiting for a drop of rain to see if the latest fix has worked regards John and Iris.
Just a thought, but could this possibly be condensation dripping from the roof light itself?
Our old Coachman caravan used to do this from the kitchen vent in cold weather, very annoying, and unless we wanted to freeze on the inside of the van by opening the vent, all we could do was stuff a small towel inbetween the outer vent and the inner flyscreen to catch any drips.
