Can anyone give even a very approximate idea of the cost af fitting an awning to motorhome? We have seen an add for a 2006 rapido but really want an awning (which is not fitted).
any competent diy should be able to fit it, its just a matter of pre buying the right inner and outer brackets for the particular model you wish to fit, I do not know how long your rapido is but my van is 6m long and they fitted a 3.5m long fiamma to it at the factory, it all depends at how really long you want it and whether it will fit your side wall above the door, so I would measure from there to the rear and see what length you have and which one could fit.
Do you know what sort of awning you want? Usual type for motorhome is roll out Fiamma as mentioned, available in various lengths, google 'Fiamma awning' for prices. Its just a canopy though, if you want sides & front, these are £100s extra.
Secondhand are available on ebay but be aware these are mechanical devices & prone to wind damage so buying sight unseen off ebay might be risky. Not all workshops will fit used equipment supplied by customer as they might get blamed for faults that are not theirs. I guess any motorhome workshop would fit one in under 2hrs so add £100odd for fitting cost.
I have looked at a couple of simple looking fiamma awnings coming in at just under £400. Will this cost include everything you need to fit it? or are fittings usually extra? Is it likely that £600 would cover the cost of a new awning and fittings and fitting costs?
Really grateful for any help here. It would be much easier just to find a mhome with everything we want already there!
Don't let it be the deal-breaker if the MH is otherwise everything you want, at the right price - it's hard enough finding the right MH. We bought our MH almost 10 years ago and planned to get a drive-away awning as we'd had a tent before. After using the MH, we decided we didn't want its extra weight, preferred to carry folding bikes instead. The wind-out canopy is nice if it's raining gently, but it's lovely to be outside in the sun. Friends have a wind-out awning, but had to buy skirts to fit for when the wind whistles underneath the van. A drive-away awning might be a compromise as you can at least leave stuff in it (bikes, boots) if you're away for the day, or to make more room in the MH at night, or someone can sleep there if necessary, and you can buy it on eBay (just make sure it's tall enough to go over your door). When we fancy a side canopy, we use a tarp held up with tent poles and fixed with bungies.
Friends of ours have a Rapido, and were looking for an awning and found out that if you check on Rapido website it will let you know what length awning is correct for your model - something to do with how long is viable and safe on your particular van.
