Happy Sunday!! I need a new windscreen for my Ace Motorhome thanks to a stone bullet that chipped and then cracked the glass.
My first thought was booking a mobile glass fitter, but I am wondering if motorhome windscreens are too big for driveway installation.
I know that someone on the forum will have already experienced the same problem and have the best answer, so thanks in advance
Windscreen cover is usually included with your insurance. Mostly £70 excess & whoever your insurance co use for windscreen fitting will be able to come to you to fit it if you have commercial van cab but possibly not if large coachbuilt A class type.
Hi I'm with Comfort insurance and when I needed a new windscreen on my A class Pilote, they sent out RAC Autoglass who have a special unit for fitting larger screens. It took about a week for them to get the screen and they fitted it on my drive, it was a sunny day though

Never be without windscreen insurance....
- and check that it doesn't have a cap on the cost of a replacement screen because some policies do...
Happened to us this year: we're insured with Comfort, but were told that, as the windscreen would be too big to fit on the drive, we had to take it to one of Autoglass's locations. Apparently they use a special machine for big A Class windscreens.
As for a cap on cost: with Comfort it is, in our case anyway, £3000, cost of the windscreen was £2650, so just within. Amazing what they cost. they told us Carthago A Class ones can cost £8000. Hard to believe really, how do they justify that?
We had the same problem when in France this year.Contacted the insurers who contacted Autoglas France, who then contacted us.
They made an appointment for us to take the van (2010 Fiat Ducato) to the nearest Autoglas Centre (in this case Frejus) as they were not able to fit the new screen from a mobile fitter.
So we had a day in Frejus and excellent service from Autoglas both in the UK and France. They even fitted new wiper blades and threw the old ones away. Problem was, I had just replaced them before we left at a cost of £30+ Needless to say, me and the fitted had a rummage around in their bins to find them! Oh how we laughed!
The point being, I don't think mobile fitters have the tools to replace such screens, but with such excellent service, it didn't matter having to go to one of their workshops.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
