hi everyone slowly getting sorted with the old kon tiki but wonder if anyone can help the rear wheel bearings on the al-ko axel are rumbling can anyone tell me if they are a standard fiat kit or are they from al-ko them selves any body please need to get it mot:
Not sure but probably Fiat
but If you can take them out and buy new bearing and seals from a bearing company
All bearings have the numbers on the outer race and you can measure the actual size same goes for the seal
probably get them a lot cheaper
Thanks spartan
i read somewhere that alko use stadard bearings to the base vehicle but can not find anything on it may have to get intouch with alko themselves if i can not find them as for taking bearings out i didnt want to, but at the last resort thats probably the way i will go cheers
as far as I'm aware Alko did not replace any of the fiat running gear, ie. brakes/axles etc. at all but only the chassis and their extensions to some models, so in effect the bearing should be fiat, I would take them out first and a good local motor factor should easily match them for you
Hi wineciccio
My camper is a fiat Ducati mk1 swift kon-tiki it has a alko sticker under bonnet and I would think it is a alko as it is a tube beam axle with grease nipples on it many thanks for info anybody else with info please
I still feel that the original axle is fitted, I also had a kontiky on the early fiat, and to this day I do not know whether I had an alko chassis or not, but I do remember that in Germany I had spring assisters fitted a lot cheaper than here in England and they went straight on between the axle and chassis.
I did not know alko fitted that kind of set up to the MK1 fiats vans?????, as I said in my previous post mine was 6 berth kontiky, but I do not remember the layout of the rear axle.
Hi again yeh we all live And learn a little every day no matter how old we are wish my kids would any how l found out they fit the standard bearings to the stub axles so problem solved cheers
