I don't know which is best but the one I bought is perfectly adequate for testing my Motorhome.
The one I got was off Ebay for about £7 with free P&P - a Digital Moisture Damp Meter Tester Detector Wood Timber Sensor 4 Pin MD-4G
If you do get a very bad reading you'd probably have to take it to an expert to confirm the problem and spending much more on a Meter seems a waste of money.
There may be others even cheaper but mine works okay and is a useful piece of equipment.
Protimeter is the one most widely used one in the caravan trade but at about £140 there not cheap but very accurate and usually come with the tool to recalibrate.
I got one when it was on special offer in Aldi. I do not know how accurate it is but it is enough to tell you if you have a problem, at least that is how I use it
Wish we'd bought one of these before we traded in our 2007 motorhome and got stung at the last minute. £1200 deducted from original offer because of work needed on damp. Suspect we were ripped off. The moral of this story: never trade in your motorhome without getting it damp checked first!
