I've just bought a Romahome R30 on a Citroen Relay van and I'm blowed if I can find how to release the spare wheel. (looks as if it's never been out of its carrier)
Both the handbook for the Relay and the Romahome show different mechanisms. My van has some sort of gearbox mounted behind the rear offside wheel with two cables which seem to be something to do with it, but there is no handle/wrench etc. for turning it. The spare wheel simply seems to hang under the van.
Any ideas??

Thanks Pepe63. That's the exact attachment. Fortunately it looks in pristine condition and not at all seized. The jack, wheelbrace etc.. all appear to be unused, but I can't find anything that looks like a handle for the wheel winch. Anyway, the ebay illustration shows me how it works, so I'll sort out a handle or it.
Thanks again..

That's good news then..
..although, if it is free and you do spray it with something, I wouldn't use WD40, not to finish up with anyway, as it's not really a very good lube (WD stands for "water displacement") and if anything, once it's dried out, it seems to promote rust!?
The bad news is that the handle/shaft for it is missing.
This wouldn't be such a problem if it was hexagonal or square, but unfortunately it's pentagonal. If I can't get a handle, I'll have to get a suitable hex headed bolt and file the end to a 5 sided shape to fit the socket on the wheel winch.

Just remembered that there was internet chatter about Citroen/Peugeot and Fiat, having issues(some recalls) with certain spare wheel carriers(some cable ends came adrift, resulting in the wheel falling off)
So it's worth checking that yours has been mod'ed, if it fell within that category/age.
It may have been already done, that is why it is so new looking?..worth checking on.
The attachment that goes into the spare wheel mechanism then fits into the end of the one that you use to undo the wheel nuts, there is no separate handle.
Thanks Mike. I wondered if that was the case- but I still don't have anything to fit the spare wheel mechanism. I called the dealer yesterday and they're trying to locate one for me.

After all that, the dealer failed to get back and I have a suspicion that having got my money, he doesn't want to know. I'm sure he's not the only one, but I certainly won't be back there.
However, I explained the problem to a local garage man who provided me with a large bolt (free), and with the use of a grinder, I ground the last 2cms. to a 5 sided shape to fit the wheel winch. So now I can raise and lower the spare wheel, but I had a lot of difficulty releasing it from the cable and from its appearance I think the spare wheel has never been used.

There are two Romahome's Local to me and one is certainly a Citroen but both have spare mounted on back.
Its such a crap idea hanging underneath in all that muck from the wheels that's why the locals have had theirs modified. I did a lot of installation work years ago for a French manufacturer and all their panel keys were triangular sockets. were as all the German and British were just a common square.
Thanks Pepe. I was aware of problems with the spare wheel, but my van is newer than the recall dates.
Anyway, I've got a workable solution but I've been advised to keep the mechanism well greased. It was a devil to release the spare wheel- I think it had never been used.
