We are interested in hiring a motorhome for a week but I am a bit confused where to go.

I have come across a website leisurerentalsdirect.com who seem to be an advertising site for owners. I was about to make a booking and enter all my details and then decided that the site wasn't secure.

Does anyone have any experience of this company either as a hirer or owner hiring their van out.

Any advice or suggestions graetfully received. We are based in kent and looking to rent one somewhere in the south / south east

That was a website that rents out motorhomes that are privately owned by individuals. Never enter credit card details into a website without https in the web address of the payment page but theres no reason why hiring this way should be a problem otherwise.

The alternative is hiring from a company that hires m/h's from it's own fleet, usually a large dealer group, ie this one in Luton.

Thanks, yes that is what I looked at the https bit and it wasn't there. I nearly did it and then realised so deleted it all. Just need to find out how to book it without making a payment on line. I'll look at the one you suggested, thank you.

Isn't it a bit 'dodgy' booking a Motorhome you haven't seen and inspected.

Not just the financial side but there may be a big discrepancy in what the Hiring company say about the MH and what condition it may actually be in.

Only book after seeing and inspecting the vehicle.

We hired Motorhomes for a few years before buying our own and seeing what you are about to hire is essential.

I have looked at companies that seem quite big and they want £1250 deposit. One seems to not be very prompt at giving it back, they actually take it off a credit card not just getting pre-authorisation!This seems a bit of a dodgy practice.

Does anyone live near Andover and know Abacus Motorhome Hire? I spoke to them and they seem OK

Thanks

I have a friend who hires her motorhome out on Hire a Hymer site. She is in Petts Wood, Kent and keeps it at home for collection/delivery from her house. It's called Bumblebee. (They all have simpsons character names) I'll ask her to reply as she is a ukcampsite member too. It's gorgeous and really well kitted out.
