Does anyone know if awning rails can be fitted to a VW Caddy Camper.

Urgently need to add extra space for longer camping trips.

If no awning rails, which drive away tailgate tents would work? (they need to be easy to erect/dismantle).

Yes we have fitted an awning rail to a VW caddy but we had an awning altered to fit it as there isn't a lot of height.
The awning rail we sourced from a breakers but you can buy it new.

Thank you....what is the awning rail called and do you know where I can get it?

So far every place I've asked has said they don't have anything to fit.

Very frustrating indeed!

If you want new measure your van how long a length you need check out a caravan with that length on and order that if your careful you can bend the rail to suit I mean lazy bends not 90o
Its a lot easier and a lot cheaper to go to a caravan breakers we got a straight 15 foot length for £5 with the rubber insert .
It is called an awning rail simple as.
The one we got ran the whole length of the van at the bottom.

Depends how much cash you are willing to part with. A lot of rails out there look awful. A reimo rail looks the business but not cheap. Ciao

go for it

Get your self a Carastore awning in a bag just hangs on the awning rail that you will fit or can be stored inside.
I have pictures of one we fitted to a peugeot Expert van but sadly can't load them on this site

Hi.
If you don't fancy drilling holes along your van's roof edge (nor just relying on "bonding" it on?), has the roof got any OE roof rack fixing points/holes?..if so, I would you use those on the one side to mount a length of rigid aluminium section/angle, which in turn could have a simple awning rail fixed to it..
(Either that or fit a set of roof/ladder bars, and use those to mount a rail assembly off..?)
..although,  will the above get you enough "standing" height under a simple tarp?(and would that matter anyway?)

Having said that, if you're also *looking at drive-away awnings(either mounted on the side or over the tailgate)then you wouldn't really 'need' a rail, as you could probably get away with just using the likes of throw-over straps and pegs ( and/or small "dent-pullers"?) etc .

(*If you are looking , I'd suggest checking used ads, as drive-away awnings can get bought by some "motor homers" and then sold after very little use).

Whatever you do, do not buy a Kampa Driveaway kit with Limpet Suckers.
They are a complete waste of space and are a liability.
After just three uses, 4 out of 6 of mine failed after midnight on a wet miserable night.
The Reimo Rail that fixes with adhesive in the Caddy roof channel is the one to get.

I was told my wonderful Caddy Camper couldn’t have a fitted awning.

I'll amend what I said about fitting a Reimo Rail since they proved hard to source.
I bought a set of roof rails for around £75 which proved very good with one drawback. fitting the awning in the correct position along the length of my VW Caddy made the awning velcro straps clash with the roof rail supports.
I overcame this by introducing a telescopic pole that can be fixed to the rail with velcro straps and then the awning fixed to the pole.
It works well as a drive-away option.
I've used it on ten nights so far with no problems.
The telescopic poles are available on Amazon for around £14 and are well made.
The rubbish Limpet gizmos are in the bin now where they belong.

I owned a wonderful Caddy Camper and was always told I couldn’t attach a side awning. I bought a fab Quechua pop-up tent which you could stand up in & used that - excellent easy to handle tent. Enjoy!
