Yes, generally the more you pay, the easier it is to get bikes on & off & carrier on/off towball. I would go for top quality like more expensive Thule or Westfalia brands. These have their own lights & numberplate carrier & support bikes top & bottom.
Yep, got our Thule EuroClassic 2 Pro, back in 2002 £250 at the time, superb piece of kit, even got the Extender Kit for it, so that it can be made to take 3 bikes when required.
The EuroClassic folds flat, so it gets popped into the boot once the bikes are of, sadly they no longer produce the EuroClassic.
Not sure if the newer Thule models are foldable or not.
If I was buying one today, I would go for the Westfalia BC60, which is pretty much an improved version of the EuroClassic, got to see one at a show, and I would say it's worth the £300 price tag.
I used to have the Maypole one, it's much cheaper and less elaborate than the Thule ones. It folds up very neatly for storage and is good quality. Think it was only 40 odd quid.
We use a Thule three bike "Hang-On" which we find does the job well. It is more compact than the Velo type; it can fold down with or without the bikes on for accessing tailgates where that is needed, but with the bikes that can be quite "heavy".
Had it about 5 years and very pleased with the purchase.
best buy ever - had a RAV 4 and couldnt get a bike rack to fit it because of back wheel, and needed something that was easy to use - To the rescue THULE :) now have a fab rack, so easy to use. i am disabled, and this is a big bonus, doesnt weigh too much, easy to fit to and remove from towbar :) love it even has a lock on it to prevent theft.
Ive jsut tried to add a picie of it on the back of the car, but cant!!!
The one I have and use takes only two bikes.A v piece fits between tow ball and frame then tubes fit in with hooks for bikes attached. At a boot sale one day and seller said if anyone can tell me what this is they can have it for a pound.
