Several years since I last posted on this site, but have a question that I hope someone here may be able to answer for me.
Me and the OH are mostly tent campers though we used to have a bongo and have hired one on occasion also.
We have a Honda CR-V which we have made a removable platform for that sits on top of the folded rear seats to enable us to sleep in there. We're really proud of our mini camper conversion!
Last year we used self inflating camping mats on the platform, but we're hoping to get a mattress made up this year that will fit the platform perfectly.
Can anyone recomend a company that will make a mattress to measure and have any tips as to the most comfortable materials etc to use?
If you are after a foam mattress then try one of the online foam suppliers, most are happy to work to a diagram or customer's template, they will also advise on the best grade of foam and depth required for the job.
Just a word of warning though, dont be tempted to go for the cheaper bonded 'crumb' foams, the type made from off cuts all stuck together. Not only do they weigh a ton in comparison to normal sheet foams, they are also very firm to sleep on with very little contouring properties or 'give'.
We made that mistake when we bought a bed prop for our caravan, and ended up with an expensive mistake and having to order again.
If you want a more instant DIY Job, Dunhelm mill shops sell upholstry foam blocks that you can cut to size and cover yourself.
Your probably a bit too far away from me to collect, but l have the foam from an lkea single mattress to give away which may be suitable, its clean, used only when my daughter came home from uni (now graduated and left home) but the zip on the mattress cover bust, so got scrapped as we just use the room as storage now, but l kept the foam from it as it was too good to waste.
