We are looking to buy an awning for our motorhome home, it needs to be a large one. We have been looking at the air ones particularly vango but are now wondering if these would be less durable as it will be left up in all weathers. Any advice here will be a great help. Thankyou

Hi,

Most motorhome owners tend to fit the Thule /Omnistor awnings. They are typically really only to be used as sun screens that can be wound out of their 'cassette' & quickly deployed. It isn't recommended, to leave them up in strong winds or heavy rain !

These awnings mean you can get away from your pitch quickly for trips out during the day.
You can get side walls & even a Safari pod tent extension for them, if you are planning on being more 'static' & therefore less mobile.

As to Drive drive-away awnings, (we tested a Kyham with a Ford transit West Falia van conversion before finally purchasing our lager Fiat Ducato Hymer) note they are as much of a faff to put up as a tent !
They do offer good weather protection but remember they take up a fair amount of storage space & if it gets wet, you will be bringing all of that back inside your motorhome when you leave; & you may then just exceed your vans towing weight !

Hi thankyou for your reply, we have the wind out awning but want a proper awning as well , it needs to be a sturdy one as it's going to left up on a seasonal pitch, and I'm not sure if the drive away ones will stand up to this, not too bothered about quick set up as I don't intend to put it up and down, and weight not too much of a problem as wouldn't take it if traveling around, I can find all season awnings for caravans but not motorhome,   so wondered if someone new of one that would do the job x

Why don't you erect a tent on your pitch, rather than a drive away awning, then use your roll out as an all weather cover to 'link' the tent to your MH. Not sure that a drive away awning is designed for what you want it to do.
