Has anybody had any luck with good TV signals on Freeview channels using a simple home indoor aerial. There seems to be lots of conflicting advice ( with corresponding high prices) and I know you 'get what you pay for' - but could I get a decent signal with a simple indoor or roof-mounted aerial?
help..........

Yes, and why not? as long as you are pointing it in the general direction for the signal.

Hello mrboy

Most 'fitted' aerials have an amplifier to boost the signals.

You may need to buy one if you use a low gain one.

If you travel to different areas, you'll need a wideband aerial, they have a lower gain than single group ones e.g. Group 'A', Group 'C/D'

Also you have to ensure the polarisation is correct, whether the elements are Horizontal or Vertical in use.

But you know this already?

Regards James

In the beginning there was darkness.
Then I bought a tent.

Some sites have a strong signal, others very weak.

Some have said they get great reception from simple setups like the ones that stick on the window or the like, personally I feel they've been lucky I went for an element type, reasonably cheap & perform well but found it a pain having to set it up on the pole at the back of the van every time I went on a new site & remember to take it down when moving off, so i bit the bullet & got a decent roof mounted one to replace the crap one that was just an ornament that was there, expensive? yes but then you pays your money & takes your choice.
