I also have a Nextbase dashcam fitted to the front of the car. I also have one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DDPAI-Mini-1080P-HD-WIFI-In-Car-Dash-Camera-DVR-Rotate-APP-Monitor-Remote-Snap-/291763849854?epid=1364146199&hash=item43ee7b0a7e:g:lIAAAOSwxfNXNs5V fitted in the rear window facing back. It works really well and quite discreet. If I hadn't already had the Nextbase one the front I'd have been more than happy with this one in the front.

Nextbase, check out the Which ratings. Don't go to Halfords to get installation try a independent fitter.
Why would you need to pay anyone to stick a dashcam on your windscreen?

You can have them hard wired...
> No wires showing or hanging loose.
> No in-car socket taken up by the camera.
> Auto on and off with the ignition.
> Forget it until you need it.
I paid £50 for mine at the Caravan show. They're now about £15 on Amazon. No frills, just a basic camera. Does the job. Also comes on automatically with the ignition if you leave it switched on.

I have a next base which was recommended by Which. Seems to work fine so long as you format the hard disk every 2/3 weeks as suggested.
I also have the Next Base. Not the cheapest but good quality.
Regarding the formatting every few weeks: I wondered why that was necessary but noticed that sometimes there was an orange padlock image on the screen. That indicates that the 3 minute segment was locked and could not be written over. If that happened enough times then you would eventually run out of memory if you did not format it. I realised it happened when I hit a pothole or big bump in the road. (My car has stiff suspension and some of the roads around here are very poor). It sensed that the car had been in a collision. Easy to sort out, just turn off (or adjust the sensitivity of) the G sensor, then format. I turned it off and have never seen the padlock image since. I won't bother formatting for six months or so.
Regarding the cable: I run it above/behind the passenger sun visor, over the passenger grab handle above the door, behind the passenger seat, alongside the transmission tunnel and into the cigar lighter. It is just the right length for this and is nicely out of the way.
Thanks for all your advise.Leaning heavily towards a Nextbase model to be decided.Do not want to hard wire so can move around vehicles. On dash in moho have cigarette lighter that I use for sat nav but also have similar to cigarette lighter that states max 180w.Can I plug dash cam in there or should I get a splitter for cigarette lighter. Many thanks.
