i had the same problem on the M6 toll with a modified jeep cherokee.

as the bonnet was too high, it was classed as a commercial vehicle.

i had the v5 with me and spent and instructive half hour pointing the the correct classification until the police arrived.

they declared that as it was a private road, i had to pay the price demanded.

so i pointed out that as it was a private road they had no jurisdiction.....

i was ordered to pay the lowest rate and told to bugger off.

As the original poster of this topic I can confirm that I have a class M1 on my log book and though I have had many conversations with the telephone operatives at Merseyflow and get the charge reduced to class 2, it is a battle every time I cross this damned bridge involving an hour at least. Then we have the payzone problem which only recognises my vehicle as a class 3, so I have to pay by phone.
I canb understand the nimby's in the south making light of this 'Northeners' problem but I posted it as a warning for non local MH owners who may be inclined to travel to the 'cold north'.

That's very useful, my vehicle is also M1 on V5, but also motor caravan, and came up as £6 when I did a dummy pay online. I'll probably stick to the tunnel, but good to know you got it down to £2, I would have been caught out if I hadn't read about the motor caravan rate on here and assumed I would be class 2.
